ALC Meets at held at Camping and Caravanning Club sites…why?
People often ask us why our Meets are held at CCC sites. Here are some reasons:
Price: as an example, a winter weekend at Canterbury for a solo tent camper would be £26.30 for a CCC member, but only £10.52 for an ALC Meet… a very generous discount.
Flexibility: we can book months in advance, accept cancellations till 10 days before, and add more people up to the day before the Meet.
Consistency: Club sites have trained staff, clean warm toilets and showers, dish-washing and laundry (including dryers and an iron), an information point that often has books to borrow, WiFi, and a small shop. Some also have backpacker huts.
Safety: Club sites follow the same safety-conscious pitching and driving rules, and staff make sure that campers follow them.
Social camping: we are given a designated area so that we are pitched together, often with an events shelter, which makes iteasy to chat with like-minded people, sharing tips and information about kit, sites, food and life in general.
All-year-round camping: as a Special Interest Section of the Club, we can arrange Meets 12 months of the year, when most campsites have closed their grass pitches. Being able to camp in comfort in the depths of winter is one of the most important benefits of joining the ALC.
Mablethorpe
Friday 24 April 2pm – Sunday 26 April 11am
A big attraction of Mablethorpe CCC site is its proximity to the beach, from where you can walk for miles in either direction – and in April we’ll avoid the summer crowds. Quality fish and chips (or just chips) might also be on the agenda! The town has a Co-op, lots of pubs and cafes, a seal sanctuary and a cinema.
If you plan to arrive by public transport the nearest rail station is Skegness, and then a direct bus service (about 1hr) to Mablethorpe. There’s no bus on Sunday but you could consider staying an extra night. If cycling, much of Lincolnshire is famously flat! And we do have space for cars at this Meet.
Price for the weekend is £12 per person.

The 2026 AGM Meet - Kingsbury Water Park CCC site
Friday 15 May 2pm – Sunday 17 May 11am.
This Meet is usually one of our best attended, so it’s a great opportunity to meet other members. The AGM starts at 2pm at the Victory Hall which is a short walk from the site. On Saturday night we’ll be serving food and drink in our event shelter, along with some home-grown entertainment. You might also enjoy walking in the Park, and some of our members are attending the Meriden Memorial Service on the Sunday.
Our pitches are fairly close to the toilets/showers, and we plan to offer phone charging and tea/coffee making. We also have some larger EHU pitches available for those who need them.
Price for the weekend is £15 per person (extra for an EHU pitch).

Scarborough
Friday 19 Jun 2pm – Sunday 21 June 11am.
For many ALC members, Scarborough needs no introduction, but if you haven’t visited the town before you will certainly find plenty to fill a weekend, in fact you may decide to add on Sunday night!
The CCC site is 2.5 miles north of the town centre, and there’s a bus stop outside the site.
A Tesco Express is a 20-minute stroll and there’s a pub/restaurant accessed directly from the site. Scarborough usually has a variety of evening entertainment, and we’ll share details of what’s on offer nearer the time. Some of us may just want to chill of course!
Price for the weekend is £14 per person.

Cambridge
Friday 3 July 2pm – Sunday 5 July 11am
A city Meet, with a wide choice of museums, gardens, churches, colleges, entertainment, shopping – or sport (we have several members who highly recommend going to a local football or rugby match).
ALC members often say that our Meets encourage them to try things they would never have thought of, and on our last visit to Cambridge several of us went to hear The Spiritual Gospel Choir – later described in our Bulletin as “a happy, mood boosting evening of upbeat music and positivity”.
The site is on the southern edge of Cambridge with several bus routes running past the entrance. For hot food there’s a large garden centre with a popular cafe a 10 minute walk from the site entrance.
Price for the weekend is £13

The Tiny Tent Festival
Clent Hills Thursday 30 July 3pm – Monday 3 August 11am
This event falls on the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Cycle Campers. It is a major event in the ALC calendar as we celebrate our history of small tent camping since 1901 at the TH Holding Memorial site, a fitting destination.
It’s a 4-night Meet with a choice of activities on-site and off (camp cook-off, tarpology, stove boiling, book swap, quiz, museum trip…).
We have reserved sufficient pitches to provide 2 event shelters, a designated cooking area and car parking. EHU will be available for phone charging, tea-making, e-bike charging, etc.
Prices for the 4-night Meet start at £40 for a backpacker pitch. This includes drinks plus snacks or cakes or pizza at 4 events during the Meet.

Chipping Norton
Friday 4 September 2pm – Sunday 6 September 11am
For most of us this will be a first visit to the Chipping Norton site and we’re looking forward to exploring this part of the Cotswolds.
Local visitor attractions include NT-owned Chastleton House, the Model Village at Bourton-on-the-Water, and the Neolithic Rollright Stones.
There should be something for everyone!
The area is also known for its independent shops and plentiful watering holes.
The site itself has a bus stop at the entrance, with buses to the nearest railway station at Charlbury. Chipping Norton is a 30 minute walk from the site and has a Co-op, fish and chips, and several pubs.
This Meet coincides with an ALC Council meeting, so EHU will be available for phone charging, etc. Price for the weekend is £11 per person.

Nottingham
Friday 18 September 2pm - Sunday 20 September 11am
Another city Meet, with Nottingham easily reached using the Park and Ride bus from theShepherds Stonehouse less than a 10 minute walk from the site.
The castle museum is well worth a visit, lots of interesting exhibits and some stunning views.
A tour of the city caves might appeal?
And perhaps follow that with a drink at England’s’ oldest surviving inn, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem.
If you fancy something quieter, how about a walk along the disused railway embankment to the Cotgrave Country Park.
The site has excellent facilities, including hot drinks and cakes served in the reception area, which possibly has one of the CCCs largest collection of books to borrow and a cosy log burner.
Price for the weekend is £13 per person.
