An evening with John Tams

Several of us were lucky enough to see John Tams, the celebrated English folk singer-songwriter from Holbrook, Derbyshire, playing in nearby Moira, at the National Forest Folk centre, on the Friday of our Conkers meet. We were extremely lucky that he could make it as he was not well, recovering from pneumonia.

Known for his music rooted in the landscapes and working-class heritage of his homeland, Tams has enjoyed a career spanning decades, from his early days with the band Muckram Wakes to his acclaimed solo albums and collaborations with the Royal Shakespeare Company. His music is deeply rooted in his homeland's landscapes and working-class heritage. He has received numerous awards, including "Best Album" at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. In between his singing he told stories and jokes, altogether a very enjoyable evening! Oh, and we were even provided with free mince pies and Xmas cake during the interval!
